Recently, I visited the blog of a 2006 Field Medallist Terence Tao and found extremely useful pieces of advice for higher education and career.  Although these are not about how to get a good score in TOEFL or how to get a funding for your PhD, he did provide interesting points of view and good guidance for students (or even researchers).  Since a number of people reading this forum are thinking of doing a degree in maths/physics, I think it is good idea to post the links here.

Advice: http://terrytao.wordpress.com/career-advice/

Olympiad students may be interested Terence's profile at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terence_Tao
and his advice in competitions at  http://terrytao.wordpress.com/career-advice/advice-on-mathematics-competitions/

From 1992 to 1996, Tao was a graduate student at Princeton University under the direction of Elias Stein, receiving his Ph.D. at the age of 20.
