Dear APhO Leaders and Contact Persons,
As the 10th APhO is approaching, it is my pleasure to inform you that the preparation work has been going very well. We look forward to welcoming your delegates. Up to now the following twenty-two delegations have submitted their confirmation for participation:
- Brunei Darussalam
- Chinese Taipei (Taiwan)
- Hong Kong
- Lao PDR
- Sri Lanka
Most of the major international airlines have direct flights to Bangkok at Suvarnabhumi Airport. The Organizing Committee will welcome all participants at Suvarnabhumi Airport. Please inform us of your arrival and departure times for proper arrangements.
For your own convenience, you should have an effective visa on entering Thailand. Letters of invitation from the Organizing Committee may be requested for the purpose of visa application. Tourist visa exemption is available for some countries/special administrative region as announced on the website of the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs at http://www.mfa.go.th. Visa on arrival is also available to citizens of a number of countries and territories as announced on the same website.
Leaders and observers will be staying in Sofitel Centara Grand Bangkok Hotel. We will arrange two persons to share a room. If anyone prefers to stay alone, please let us know in advance and a total surcharge of 300 US dollars per person will be requested. We offer hotel booking assistance to anyone who is due to arrive before April 24 or leave after May 2. Please inform us well in advance. We will be pleased to help make arrangements for your lodging. Contestants will stay in KU Home of Kasetsart University. Participants who arrive earlier or depart later than the schedule should inform the Organizing Committee.
Fees and Expenses
The voluntary fees for all participating teams (for 2 leaders and 8 students) will be US 1,000 US dollars. This will cover meals, accommodations, and official social events during the period of the Olympiad (April 24 – May 2, 2009). The Organizing Committee will not bear the cost of transportation for the team members from their own country to or from Bangkok, Thailand.
Each observer has to pay the registration fees of 1,100 US dollars for the period of the Olympiad. Observers are allowed to attend all Olympiad events, including the meetings of the International Board, but without the right to vote and discuss.
The organizers provide a group insurance for the participating delegations during the period of the Olympiad. In addition, a doctor and a nurse will be on duty during the Olympiad for necessary emergency medical treatment.
Language and Computer
The official language of the competition is English. To type the translations of the examination problems, each delegation will have a computer at their disposal. A standard word processing software package (Microsoft Word for Windows) will be provided. You are encouraged to bring a laptop computer for your own use if you need some special softwares. Facilities for printing from computers or laptops will be available. Please inform us the language of your translation so we can prepare the computer ready to use for you.
