Letter of Invitation

Excellency,

We are pleased to inform you that Thailand will host the 10th Asian Physics Olympiad (APhO2009) during April 24 – May 2, 2009. On behalf of the Royal Thai Government and the 10th APhO Organizing Committee, I would like to cordially invite your country to participate in the APhO2009.

The APhO2009 will be held at Kasetsart University, Bangkok, a reputed university in Thailand with pleasant environment. The Organizing Committee is planning to hold various special activities to help APhO2009 participants to find not only a relaxed environment for the competition but also chances to mix with the warm hearted Thai people and to experience the cultural tradition of Thailand.

According to the Statutes of APhO, each participating country sends a team consisting of 8 students ofgeneral or technical high schools, i.e. schools which cannot be considered technical colleges. Also students who will be finishing their school examinations in the year of the competition can be membersof a team as long as they do not start the university studies. The age of the participants should not exceed twenty on June 30, 2009.

The APhO2009 Organizing Committee will cover all the official expenses for the team, including meals and accommodations, during the official period. However, travel expenses between your country and Bangkok will be each participating country’s responsibility. Observers and visitors are welcome, but they are expected to cover their expenses. Observers may attend all Olympiad meetings, including themeetings of the International Board. However, they may not vote or take part in the discussions. Visitors do not attend the meetings of the International Board. Different fees will be charged for them.As an established custom in the Asian Physics Olympiad, each participating country is encouraged to contribute a voluntary fee of 1,000 US dollars. The fees for each observer and each visitor are 1,100 and 1,000 US dollars, respectively.
