Dear Leaders,

Last week, we mailed the official invitation letter for APhO2009 to the Minister of Education or the Equivalent of the country already confirmed to participate. Please refer to the attached e-version of the official invitation letter. Kindly note that the dates of the Olympiad are April 24 – May 2, 2009. We apologize for any inconvenience that this change of dates may cause.

We have received the confirmation forms from the 13 countries/economies listed below. Thank you for your prompt confirmation.

Brunei Darussalam and Nepal have also shown their intention to participate. We will also keep close contact with the countries that have not yet expressed their intention to participate in APhO2009.

For your information, we have attached the Pre-registration Form for students, leaders, observers and visitors. Please fill out the form completely and return it to the secretariat of APhO2009 by January 15, 2009 (if possible) by e-mail, ordinary mail or fax.


The students will stay at KU Home in the campus of Kasetsart University in Bangkok. The team leaders, observers and visitors will stay at Sofitel Centara Grand Bangkok Hotel. We would like to arrange that two persons share a room. However, if you would like an individual room, please let us know in advance and note that there would be an additional charge of US$400 for the 9 nights of the official period. We offer hotel booking assistance to anyone who is due to arrive before April 24 or leave after May 2. Please inform us in advance. We will be pleased to help make arrangements for your accommodation.


The organizers of the APhO2009 will provide the group insurance for the participating delegations during April 24 – May 2, 2009. There will be doctor and nurse on duty during the Olympiad for necessary emergency medical treatment.

Language and Computer

The official language of the competition is English. To type the translations of the examination problems, each delegation will have a computer at their disposal. A standard word processing software package (Microsoft Word for Windows) will be provided. You are encouraged to bring your own laptop computer for your own use if you need some special software. Facilities for printing from computers or laptops will be available.
